THE FABRICATION YARD
The Fabrication Yard or The Fab Yard or the Yard, whatever you want to call it, it's a Dallas graffiti staple. From serious graffiti writers to new writers, they all visit this place to write. Accompanied by a bunch of what I call "chillren" scribbling and drawing dicks on everything, there is also some truly amazing graffiti pieces at this place in Dallas. You can spend the time and have the space here to truly create something special. Not all graffiti writers like this place, but even the ones that bitch about it the most visit from time to time for a spot to chill and just paint without having to have a lookout or lookout over their shoulder. This place is where I found my intro to writing and worked to get better. You simply can't get better at graffiti without picking up that can and doing so often. Originally hanging out to only take flicks, now I paint and take flicks and video. It's the full experience and make sure to not neglect my original intent as a photographer, but also want to practice in order to be a better graffiti writer. The Fabrication Yard is the place to do so.

The fabrication yard
The Fabrication Yard has been around for a few years now and is a place anyone can go and paint. This is the place to go and work on your skills and perfect your craft and style. Just don't get a big head though. If you are new and think you are getting good, believe me there are writers who will crush you and you will also look back at what you thought was good a few months ago and it will look like dog shit to you. But whatever that is human and most of the time if you practice something enough you will get good or at least better. I paint here a lot, people give me shit about it sometimes, but once I am hooked on something it becomes something I am addicted to. Also with the risk of sounding corny, painting here is pretty much my therapy. When you are painting, you are pretty much only concerned with knocking out the piece and not thinking about the future, life, stress, issues, anything, just painting. It's also cheaper than therapy considering that shit was costing my $150 a week. I personally love this place, because if it wasn't for this place I wouldn't know anyone. It's a meeting ground. I have met a lot of really cool people and my magazine likely wouldn't have been successful or even completed if I wasn't active at this location. It's also a place to party. Not exactly throwing ragers here, but when everyone packs the alley, pulls their trucks up, unloads the coolers, paint and gets the music bumping, we are there all damn day and all weekend. And some people actually are throwing ragers here, or raves.
The good with the bad
With the good, comes the bad though. While this property is privately owned, it is open to the public, which means the scribble kids like to come through and scribble shit all over pieces and art regardless of when it was completed. lt would be nice if there was some more common courtesy and respect at the yard but it is what it is.
Constant flow of new art
The change over at this place is madness but it's also what makes this place great. So many people paint here and I have soooo many fucking pictures and I am not going to put them all here on this site. Here are some of my favorites that I will work to keep updated. These are mainly individual pieces. Bigger productions and murals can be seen below.
Nonstop flow of artists and graffiti writers, young, old and all ages in between
Ever heard the saying, "prison is like a crime school" because criminals learn how to better execute crime from the prison population. The fab yard is almost like a prison in that same sense, that while it stops criminal activity, it also breeds it. People use the yard as place to practice so they don't embarrass themselves on the streets or freights.
People always asking for art work for music videos and photoshoots

7080 CREW + RONIN
This is one of the first times hanging out with Ronin, who I met at the yard and one of the first times hanging with the 7080 crew. Wasn't painting myself at this time and was only taking pics. Everything has pretty much steamrolled from this point. This day is what truly set everything in motion with my Instagram account, learning more about the graffiti culture and eventually my magazine. Ronin was also filming a documentary at this time which after we hung out became a part of.
